Team Hidalgo gains support of County’s trailblazing, first African-American woman constable

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas—(Oct 4, 2022) – Today, Harris County Constable May Walker of Precinct 7 announced her endorsement of Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo for re-election. Walker’s endorsement comes on the same day as National Night Out, an annual community-building event that promotes police-community partnerships.

“I’m standing with Lina Hidalgo because she stands with us,” Walker said. “She understands that when it comes to policing, you have to do more than just give us the resources we need. You also need to support our work to engage and invest in the communities we serve.”

Hidalgo’s record-breaking investments in law enforcement include tough and smart anti-crime initiatives that empower law enforcement agencies to build and maintain trust with the communities they serve, like Precision Policing and SAFE HARRIS

“Judge Hidalgo has the kind of backbone it takes to lead and that’s why I am proud to endorse Lina for another term as Harris County Judge,” Walker added.

In 2005, Walker became the first woman and first African-American woman to be elected Constable of Harris County. Previously, she served 24 years in the Houston Police Department, patrolling the streets to keep us safe, and was the first woman patrol officer. Hers is a legacy of public service and public safety.
