Team Hidalgo gains support from County’s celebrated first Latina constable and matriarch of Treviño law enforcement family

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas—(Oct 6, 2022) – Today, Harris County Constable Silvia Treviño of Precinct 6 announced her endorsement of Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo for re-election. Constable Treviño is the third law enforcement leader endorsement for Judge Hidalgo joining Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez and Constable May Walker.

“Fixing our broken criminal justice system takes more than just talk – it requires action. And when it comes to making our communities safer, Lina Hidalgo is delivering,” Treviño said. “Under her leadership, Harris County has put more funding than ever into policing and smart anti-crime programs.”

Hidalgo’s historic investments in justice and safety have led Harris County in the right direction, with DPS citing violent crime on a countywide decline from last year. Hidalgo’s tough and smart anti-crime initiatives like Precision Policing have concentrated law enforcement presence in areas where crime is most rampant, allowing for more accurate and effective policing.

Treviño’s career in law enforcement began in 1983 as an officer with the Houston Police Department, where she was one of six women in the academy. In 2016, Treviño emerged from retirement to run for County Constable of Precinct 6, resuming a 37-year long career and passion for public service. Treviño made history with her win, becoming the first Latina  constable elected in Harris County.

Throughout her storied tenure in public service, Treviño has remained committed to preserving public safety, fighting crime, and uplifting the community she has always called home.
